Iran’s airspace has been partially reopened for commercial travel following its complete closure during Iran and Israel’srecent 12-day conflict.
“As of July 2, Iran's airspace has partially reopened,” announced the State Department.
The airspace reopening follows a ceasefire agreement reached by Iran and Israel and brokered by President Donald Trump.
Israel and Iran exchanged heavy fire during a clash where Israel secured complete control of Iran’s airspace and in which President Trump executed devastating airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities.
The underlying Israel-Iran conflict, which began when Iran’s Islamist Fundamentalist regime took control of the country, recently flared due to reports warning Iran may have been precipitously close to possessing nuclear weapons.
While Iran claims its nuclear programs were designed for civilian purposes, the US and allies counter-argued that credible evidence demonstrates the programs had a bellicose intent.
The US and its allies have repeatedly attempted to peacefully dissuade Iran from its nuclear ambitions via negotiations, which Trump recently stated he’s willing to continue.
Trump added, however, that he doubts negotiations are necessary given the vast damage the US caused Iran’s nuclear development sites.
"We're going to talk to them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement. I don't know. To me, I don't think it's that necessary," said Trump.
The US Defense Department has held that the US “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear programs.
Before Israel and the US’s strikes, the US and its allies argued that credible evidence demonstrated Iran’s nuclear programs had a bellicose intent.
Iran Watch, an organization devoted to exposing Iran’s weapons development programs, recently reported Iran was dangerously close to obtaining nuclear weapons.
Iran Watch claimed Iran has “accomplished over 90% of the work needed to bring natural uranium to weapon-grade.”
Similarly, Israel claimed Iran “is nearing a point of no return” in its quest to obtain nuclear weapons.
Iranian leaders have previously shamelessly voiced their intentions of “destroying” and bringing “death” to Israel, the US, and their allies.
