Texas Republicans Applaud Passage of “One Big Beautiful Bill”

Texas Republicans in Congress are celebrating the House’s passage of the Senate amendment to H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping legislative package that includes major tax cuts, border security funding, and rural investments.

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (R) emphasized the bill’s direct impact on working families and border communities.

“Today, I proudly voted in support of the One Big Beautiful Bill once again,” she said. “This legislation delivers for all Americans by solidifying the largest tax cut in history, boosting the Child Tax Credit for American families, and eliminating tax on tips and overtime for hard-working Americans.”

The bill, which now heads to President Trump’s desk, increases the Child Tax Credit to $2,200, eliminates taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, and invests heavily in border enforcement and agricultural support.

De La Cruz added, “We are investing in border security, supporting Border Patrol agents, and sustaining the programs South Texans rely on.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) praised the bill’s timing and substance: “Most American thing of all time — preventing a $4 trillion tax hike just in time for the 4th of July.”

Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R), who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, said the bill reflects “lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and American economic strength.”

She called it a “major step forward in securing our border, strengthening national security, and delivering historic tax relief.”

Rep. Randy Weber (R) echoed that sentiment, calling the legislation a fulfillment of promises made by President Trump.

“It ends taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security benefits because the government has no business taxing what you’ve already earned,” he said. “This bill lays the groundwork for real, lasting success and puts us back on a path to strength, prosperity, and American greatness.”

Rep. Jodey Arrington (R) said the bill symbolizes a new chapter: “After four years of incompetence, lawlessness, chaos, and overreach, a new day has dawned in this great country of ours.”

The bill passed the House narrowly, with 218 votes in favor and 214 against. All support came from Republicans, while every Democrat voted no, including several members from Texas. Those voting against the bill included Reps. Greg Casar, Joaquin Castro, Jasmine Crockett, Henry Cuellar, Lloyd Doggett, Veronica Escobar, Lizzie Fletcher, Sylvia Garcia, Vicente Gonzalez, Al Green, Eddie Bernice Johnson, and Marc Veasey, reflecting strong Democratic opposition from the Texas delegation.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed the House with unified Republican support and now awaits the president’s signature , a move Texas Republicans say marks a turning point for the country’s economic and security future.
