Republicans Condemn Attacks Against CBP Officers

Republicans are outraged by recent assaults against Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents in McAllen, Texas.

The attack has occurred as tensions surge in response to President Donald Trump’s strict enforcement of immigration laws.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a lone shooter attacked a CBP office in an attempted ambush of CBP and law enforcement officers.

Two police officers and a Border Patrol employee were reportedly injured by the shooter, who was neutralized shortly after initiating the attack.

CBP warned “there will be legal consequences for those who incite violence against CBP agents and officers.”

Republican officials have generally condemned the attack and blamed Democrats for promoting opposition to CBP officials and other law enforcement agents.

“When Democrats assault our brave law enforcement officers with their actions and rhetoric it encourages unstable people to go even further,” stated House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-FL).

Last month, Democrat Congresswoman LaMonica McIver was charged with “forcibly impeding and interfering” with law enforcement after she physically assaulted immigration officers.

Congresswoman McIver had formed part of a group of Democrat lawmakers who attempted to visit an immigration detention center but were prevented from doing so by ICE agents, at which point the lawmakers pushed past the agents to force their way into the building.

Body cam footage reveals McIver pushing ICE personnel to clear a path forward.

“Attacks on our brave law enforcement officers and agents must end,” said Senator Rick Scott (R-FL).

Besides McAllen’s Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), scant Democrats have condemned the latest attacks against CBP.

Consequently, Republicans are demanding for Democrats to begin publicly supporting immigration law enforcement officials.

“We call on every elected official to insist that law enforcement MUST be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve,” requested Speaker Johnson.
