Texas Lawmakers Denounce Fatal Shooting of Charlie Kirk

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was killed today during an event at Utah Valley University, and many on both sides of the aisle are sharing their thoughts on the tragedy.

The 31-year-old CEO of Turning Point Action, a non-profit political advocacy group, was hosting his “The American Comeback Tour,” when he was tragically shot in the neck.

Footage of the shooting immediately circulated on social media, and soon after, videos from different angles were shared.

Kirk’s death was announced by President Donald Trump (R) on Truth Social. In the post, the president called Kirk “Great” and “Legendary,” recognizing him as someone who “had the Heart of the Youth.”

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle immediately shared their thoughts on social media, denouncing the murder.

Rep. Al Green (D), who’s had a long rivalry with the president, shared that “Charlie Kirk’s assassination is a call to action for people of goodwill to take a stand against all forms of violence.” “Paraphrasing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we must all learn to live together as brothers (and sisters), or we will all perish together as fools.”

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R) shared that “Charlie Kirk believed in open debate and honest conversation.” “He loved his family and his country.”

Amidst the bipartisan wave of support, some have shared different messages regarding the killing.

Kaylee Veltri, an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, shared an article on her Instagram story regarding Kirk’s prior comments on the Second Amendment. In her story, she captioned it with “thoughts and prayers.”

Veltri’s account is private.

Before the shooting, Kirk was answering questions from audience members regarding mass shootings and gun violence.

Governor Greg Abbott (R) also shared his condolences to the Kirk family, saying that “Charlie’s voice was a beacon for millions of young Americans searching for truth, courage, and conviction.”

Kirk is survived by his wife and two children.
