Rep. Ronny Jackson
U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson (R) continues to call out Democrats for prolonging the ongoing government shutdown. He warns that their actions are harming American farmers and ranchers by stalling critical support programs.
"Democrats are actively sabotaging America's farmers by freezing disaster relief and vital programs that keep them in operation while prioritizing taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants," said Jackson while speaking with Breitbart News. "Their anti-American priorities are clear when they put political games above the hardworking men and women who feed and clothe our country and keep rural America alive."
The shutdown, which Republicans say could have been avoided with a clean continuing resolution, has led to the U.S. Department of Agriculture suspending operations essential to farmers and ranchers.
These operations include processing payments under existing contracts, conservation planning, and the initiation of new contracts for struggling farmers.
Economic and disaster relief payments have also been frozen.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) echoed the concern, saying that Senate Democrats led by Chuck Schumer are tying the shutdown to unrelated issues, like healthcare for illegal immigrants.
"They're two totally separate things," said Johnson, emphasizing that policy debate should not halt basic government functions. "The clean continuing resolution would simply keep the lights on so that the members in the House and Senate can have those debates on healthcare."
Farmers are now left stuck without vital programs meant to assist, in a time when rural Americans face increasing economic pressure.
