Tony Gonzales Planning Another 'SUCCESSFUL' Re-Election Bid

Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales (R) is facing a whirlwind as he navigates the upcoming 2026 midterm election and the mystery surrounding the untimely death of one of his aids last month. Despite rumors circulating that he would not be seeking a re-election bid, Rep. Gonzales appears to have quieted the rumors by confirming that he intends to run for re-election.

Last month, news broke out that Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, a Uvalde native and the regional district director for the Texas Republican, had passed away after catching on fire in her backyard.

According to police and surveillance footage, Santos-Aviles set herself on fire, which raised several questions regarding the incident.

Rumors have since begun to circulate, alleging that Rep. Gonzales and Santos-Aviles were having an affair.

Nora Gonzales, Santos-Aviles’ mother, quickly shot down the rumor, telling the Daily Mail that she doesn’t believe the rumors have “any merit.” She called the rumors “completely false.”

Santos-Aviles was separated from her husband, and according to the Daily Mail, her husband separated from her after finding out about the affair with Rep. Gonzales.

Rep. Gonzales’ spokesman has issued a statement, calling news outlets “political bottom feeders distort the circumstances around her passing.” “Regina Aviles was a kind soul who had a lasting impact on her community, which she continued to serve until her untimely death,” the spokesman said.

Political operatives who have chosen to remain anonymous reportedly confirmed, however, that the Republican Party is looking for alternatives to run for Rep. Gonzales’ seat.

The Texas Republican has not directly addressed the rumored affair or the alleged attempt to replace him in the U.S. House, but he did share a photo of himself speaking to the Texas Federation of Republican Women on social media.

The caption simply stated, “I look forward to another SUCCESSFUL re-election campaign!”
