Ted Cruz Endorses Byron Donalds in Florida's Governor Race

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) is throwing his support behind Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) for governor, adding to a trove of endorsements for the representative as he continues to solidify the Republican coalition in his bid.

"Byron Donalds is exactly the kind of strong conservative leader Florida needs," Cruz said. "He has never shied away from a fight and is firmly grounded in the constitutional principles of faith, freedom, and liberty."

"Byron and I fought side by side to pass the biggest federal school choice legislation in history," Cruz continued. "I have full faith and confidence that he will fight day in and day out against the encroaching ideas of the left and will stand up for the hardworking and freedom-loving patriots of Florida. I’m proud to endorse Byron for Governor of Florida, and I look forward to his victory."

Sen. Cruz is the latest Texas official to back Rep. Donalds, who announced his run back in February. Congressman Chip Roy (R) similarly endorsed the congressman this week.

Texas' support adds to the list of endorsements for Donalds right here at home.

In April, Donalds earned a slew of Republican congressional support, including from Reps. Cory Mills, Brian Mast, Vern Buchanan, Mario Díaz-Balart, and María Elvira Salazar. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and numerous other congressional leaders are also behind Donalds in his bid.

Moreover, Donalds picked up over 60 endorsements from the Florida House in October.

In the Senate, Donalds is also backed by Rick Scott (R-FL), who called the congressman a "principled conservative who will lead with courage and conviction and fight on behalf of every Floridian."

But the biggest endorsement of them all came from President Donald Trump, who urged Donalds to run all the way back in February. After that, any other endorsement for the congressman might be icing on the cake, whose support is as long as a CVS receipt at this point.

The Florida gubernatorial election is Nov. 3, 2026.
