Armin Mizani's Questionable Conservative Credentials Exposed Amid State House Bid

After serving five years as Mayor of Keller, Texas, Armin Mizani is now appearing to reinvent himself as a conservative Republican while running for the Texas House District 98. But a look at Mizani’s record in Keller tells a different story—one that appears to conflict with Texas GOP priorities on parental rights, public libraries, and the protection of children.

Texas Republicans have spent years working to remove sexually explicit and ideologically driven material from children’s spaces in the name of parental rights and child protection—and under Mayor Mizani’s leadership, Keller has moved in the opposite direction.

Under Mayor Mizani’s leadership, the Keller Public Library has become a regional anomaly.

A review of public catalogs shows that Keller is the only library among neighboring conservative cities—Southlake, Colleyville, and Grapevine—to stock and prominently feature dozens of children’s books centered on transgender ideology, drag culture, anti-police narratives, and explicit sexual themes.

Surrounding cities have removed similar materials from children’s sections. Keller has not.

Some of the books currently available to young readers in Keller include:

  • A Kids Book About Being Transgender (ages 5–9)

  • A Kids Book About Being Non-Binary (ages 5–9)

  • Miss Rita, Mystery Reader – a drag-queen storytime book (ages 3–6)

  • The Pronoun Book – introducing neo-pronouns like “xe/zir” and concepts of “misgendering” (ages 5–9)

  • Door by Door: How Sarah McBride Became America’s First Openly Transgender Senator (ages 6–9)

The library also carries multiple books framing law enforcement as systemically abusive, including Use of Force and the Fight Against Police Brutality, which bears a “READ WOKE BOOKS” emblem on its cover.

Parents have raised concerns that many of these titles are actively promoted through the Accelerated Reader (AR) point system, incentivizing children to engage with the material for academic credit.

The Keller library’s leadership structure plays a central role in those decisions.

Mayor Mizani, alongside the Keller City Council, appoints and reappoints every member of the Library Board—and has done so repeatedly during his tenure. On December 1 alone, multiple board members were reappointed.

According to publicly available voting and donation records, several board members vote in Democratic primaries and donate to Democratic candidates.

Texas Republicans have been clear in their support for removing sexually explicit and ideologically driven materials from children’s sections of public libraries. Parents across the state have organized, testified, and voted to demand accountability.

Against that backdrop, Mizani’s record is drawing intense scrutiny.
