John Cornyn
U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R) called out Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) this week as the 2026 Republican Senate primary looms closer.
In a statement posted to the social media platform X, Sen. Cornyn criticized Paxton's performance as attorney general, accusing him of failing to act without direction from Governor Abbott.
"It is truly pathetic Attorney General Paxton must be ordered to do his job by the Governor," Sen. Cornyn wrote. "After needless delay, AG Paxton must now finally work to end the nonprofit status of terrorist-aligned organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as his incompetence has made Texans less safe."
Cornyn went further, accusing Paxton of misplaced priorities.
"Attorney General Paxton should spend less time doing the bidding of his trial lawyer buddies and more time doing the jobs voters elected him to do," he added.
Cornyn's remarks followed an announcement from the Governor Greg Abbott Press Office stating that Gov. Abbott had formally directed the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
The public exchange highlights rising tensions between the Texas Republicans as the 2026 election cycle approaches. The direct attack signals the continued battle over leadership, security policy, and enforcement priorities in Texas.
