President Trump Appears to Pull Endorsement of Tony Gonzales

As President Donald Trump readies himself to address voters in Corpus Christi, Texas, he has reposted all his endorsements for candidates in Texas on his Truth Social account, but one is missing – Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX).

Rep. Gonzales, who is fighting calls for his resignation following the death of a staffer, has made it clear that he is not resigning and that he intends to win re-election.

Despite Rep. Gonzales's determination, Republican lawmakers are endorsing his primary candidate – Brandon Herrera – and they’re calling on the incumbent Republican to exit the House.

President Trump, who endorsed Rep. Gonzales last year, called him a “terrific Representative.” However, after alleged leaked text messages between Rep. Gonzales and Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, his regional district director, showed that the Republican lawmaker was coercing her to share explicit images, the endorsement remained in question.

After President Trump omitted the endorsement from his reposts on Truth Social, Herrera commented on X that “support for Tony appears to be dropping out from all sides.”

“I appreciate President Trump for not supporting Tony’s egregious behavior, and look forward to helping the President keep our border secure here in TX-23, as well as a host of other important issues facing the country,” the Republican challenger added.

Herrera’s support among Congressional members has quickly gained traction in recent weeks.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) recently shared her support, and Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) also shared that he’s backing Herrera in the upcoming Republican primary.

Rep. Gonzales has not commented on the suspected loss of endorsement, and President Trump has also not commented on the controversy surrounding the Texas Republican.

In September 2025, reports of Santos-Aviles's death from self-immolation began to circulate, leaving many questions unanswered.

Since then, a wave of new information has been released, suggesting that Rep. Gonzales and Santos-Aviles were engaged in an affair.

Rep. Gonzales las attended President Trump's State of the Union address.
