Rep. Chip Roy/ Texas Politics
Mark Texeira, the former Major League Baseball player, has clinched the Republican nomination in the House District 21 race to replace Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX).
With 73% of the vote being reported, Texeira has a commanding lead with 61.4% of the vote.
Texeira, who won the 2009 World Series with the New York Yankees, scored top endorsements from Governor Greg Abbott and President Donald Trump after entering the race in August 2025.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), who is vacating the seat in a bid for Texas Attorney General, is now set to face state Senator Mayes Middleton (R-TX) in a runoff election. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is vacating the office to run for the U.S. Senate, and he will face incumbent Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).
Texeira, however, is heading straight to the November election to face Dr. Kristin Hook, who won the Democratic primary with 61% of the vote.
In August, Texeira announced his congression bid, saying, “As a proud Texan and a lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional.”
Dr. Hook, who has received endorsements from state Rep. James Talarico (D-TX) -- who defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in his own bid for the U.S. Senate -- among other prominent Democrats, now vies to flip Rep. Roy's vacant seat blue.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report maintains that the district is solidly Republican.
