ENROLL in http://step.state.gov to get the latest security updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Travel Advisory – Middle East Conflict Escalation

Due to the recent escalation involving Iran, the U.S. Department of State has updated travel guidance for multiple Middle Eastern countries. Heightened risks include missile and drone attacks, sudden airspace or border closures, and disruptions to commercial travel.

U.S. citizens should contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of location as the primary point of contact for country-specific guidance, security updates, and evacuation information if necessary. Direct embassy contact provides the fastest response during rapidly changing conditions.

Syria – No operating U.S. Embassy
As of February 28, 2026, Syria is experiencing increased hostilities due to regional tensions.  The U.S. Embassy in Damascus suspended its operations in 2012.  The U.S. government is unable to provide any routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Syria.  The Czech Republic serves as the protecting power for U.S. interests in Syria.  U.S. citizens in Syria who are in need of emergency assistance but are unable to reach the U.S. Interests Section of the Embassy of Czechia, should contact the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan.
