Coalition for Jewish Values UK released a letter sent yesterday to Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting, expressing appreciation for his stated commitment to replace the ambulances destroyed by the recent antisemitic attack on a Jewish emergency service. Secretary Streeting not only condemned the attack, but said that the Jewish community should not be left to bear the cost alone, and pledged government funding to replace the destroyed vehicles.
Rabbi Jonathan Guttentag, Chairman of CJV UK, issued the following statement:
“The destruction of ambulances is not simply vandalism, it is an attack on life itself. These vehicles exist to save lives, regardless of who calls them. To target them is to cross a fundamental moral line. We are grateful for the Government’s clear commitment to stand with the Jewish community and to ensure it does not carry the financial burden of targeted hatred in this case. This is not a Jewish issue alone, it is a national one.
Those responsible must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A visible and decisive response is essential to maintaining public confidence and deterring further attacks.”
