Ken Paxton
The wait is over, and President Donald Trump has just endorsed Attorney General Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate.
After months of speculation, the president has taken to Truth Social to urge voters to back the attorney general, calling him "an America First Patriot."
Both Attorney General Paxton and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) failed to clinch the Republican nomination in the March primary, which effectively triggered a runoff scheduled for May 26.
As Texas voters prepare to hit the polls and send a Republican nominee to the November election, President Trump is making the case for Attorney General Paxton.
"The Highly Respected Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton, an America First Patriot, and someone who has always been extremely loyal to me and our AMAZING MAGA MOVEMENT, is running for the United States Senate, to represent a place I love and WON, BIG, three times, with 6.4 Million Votes in 2024 (The Most Votes in the History of the State, BY FAR)!," President Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
I know Ken well, have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and he is a WINNER! Ken is a Strong Supporter of TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER and, very importantly, THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, something which polls at 87%, including Dumocrats, and yet can’t seem to get approved. Perhaps Ken can help move these important elements of Government forward because with the Filibuster, as an example, the Democrats will terminate it on their First Day in Office, giving us two extra States, D.C. and Puerto Rico, and a greatly enlarged Supreme Court of the United States," the president added.
Despite the endorsement, the support does not mean that Attorney General Paxton is a shoo-in for a November victory, seeing that the president's endorsements have failed to propel candidates to victory in the past.
However, if the endorsement pushes Republicans to vote for Attorney General Paxton on May 26, the November election could pit him against State Rep. James Talarico (R-TX), who is looking to turn the seat blue.
Libertarian candidate Ted Brown is also running for the U.S. Senate seat.
