Iran says there has been no "final conclusion on the agreement" with the U.S. after President Trump told reporters Thursday an agreement had been reached and a deal would be signed.
What are leaders saying?
Trump announced Thursday that a letter of intent or memorandum will likely be signed this weekend in Europe.
The signing of the memorandum would start a 60-day negotiation period between the two nations.
“It’s a very strong memorandum of understanding," Trump said. "That’s a little conceptual."
Once the memorandum is signed, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened. Additionally, Iranian nuclear sites will be inspected by the United Nations.
After Trump's announcement, the Fars News Agency, associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, quoted the Iranian spokesperson regarding the memorandum.
The spokesperson said they "had not reached a final conclusion on the agreement".
U.S.-Iranian negotiations are constantly developing.
