Ken Paxton Says He Supports IVF Procedures, Unlike Rest of Texas GOP

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Thursday he is a "strong supporter" of in-vitro fertilization, which was demonized in the state party convention in Houston last week.

Why did Paxton express his support?

The U.S. Senate nominee said if elected he would cosponsor the IVF Protection Act, which would bar Medicaid funding for any state that bans IVF. The bill was introduced by Sens. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

What did Paxton have to say?

“Strong families are the foundation of a strong nation,” Paxton told The Texas Tribune. “Every child is a blessing, and every family hoping to welcome a child deserves support and compassion. I am a strong supporter of IVF and pro-family policies that help Americans experience the wonders of parenthood.”

Although the Texas GOP criticized the treatment during a convention last week, multiple state and federal Republican leaders have expressed their support.

In addition to Britt and Cruz who introduced the bill, both President Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott are among those who have expressed support for IVF treatments.

However, In 2024, Senate Republicans blocked an IVF bill which would have established a nationwide right to the fertility treatment.

Paxton joined the side of the party which supports IVF, as part of his Senate campaign in the 2026 Midterms.
