President Donald Trump
Trump directed Americans Monday to report gas station price gouging, after crude oil prices have been dropping the past two weeks.
Which gas companies is the President targeting?
The President has repeatedly accused ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell and BP of price gouging and ordered the Department of Justice to probe the companies and others last week.
Why does this matter?
Oil prices dropped $26.19 per barrel in a month. However, at the pump, Texans saw prices drop $0.585 in the last month per gallon of regular gas.
"The oil prices have come down so much and we are not seeing anything at the pump by comparison to what it should be," the President told reporters.
The current average for regular gas is $3.2980 per gallon in Texas. Last June, Texans paid $2.769 per gallon at the pump.
Continuing conflict in the Middle East and delayed peace deals have led gas prices to fluctuate for the past four months. With the Strait of Hormuz reopened then re-closed, gas prices are uncertain in the following weeks.
