President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the first-ever midterm national Republican convention will take place this September, and it’s coming to Dallas, Texas.
The two-day convention, scheduled for Sept. 9 and 10 at American Airlines Center, departs from the longstanding tradition of only holding national conventions during presidential election years. Trump said the event will serve as a celebration of the nation and its achievements, honoring the work of the founding fathers in establishing the country’s principles while looking toward its future.
“We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president described Dallas as one of his “favorite places in the World,” and said that the rally will be “like none other.”
But the announcement comes as Republicans in both chambers of Congress remain divided, with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act and other legislative efforts prompting some members to criticize one another publicly and contributing to tensions that even brought House floor proceedings to a standstill.
However, Trump said this convention will be about unity and the hope for the country’s upcoming “Golden Age.”
“America's 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness,” he said.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who also serves as chairman of the Republican Mayors Association, said this convention could be just what the Republican Party needs to regain ground before the midterms.
"I'm confident that this unprecedented convention will energize our party, strengthen the conservative movement and help build momentum for a successful 2026 election," Johnson said.
Trump noted that the attendees will include hardworking Americans, innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, first responders, and job creators who are helping drive the nation’s progress.
“We are delivering on the promises that politicians talked about for decades, but never got done,” he said.
