Don Huffins
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday his appointment of Don Huffines as Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts after Kelly Hancock's resignation.
Hancock resigned Thursday, just weeks after being defeated by Huffines in the Republican primary.
What did the Governor say?
"Don Huffines brings the right mix of business experience and conservative principles to this vital office," the Governor wrote in a statement. "He is a fifth-generation Texan, successful businessman, and proven conservative leader who puts taxpayers first."
Huffines' campaign priorities included: exposing government corruption, running the government like a business, modernizing Texas infrastructure and no tax dollars for "illegals, terrorists, or woke ideology".
Huffines ran on a pro-business platform and he was appointed as Comptroller to promote Texas business and preserve conservative ideals.
"His private sector experience and dedication to limited government make him exceptionally qualified to lead the state's finances and protect every taxpayer dollar with integrity and accountability," the Governor continued.
Huffines will fill the position August 1, serving as Comptroller until he faces Democrat nominee Sarah Eckhardt in the November general election.
