Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (D) announced nearly $1.5 million in federal funding to replace airfield signage at Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport, improving safety, operational efficiency, and long-term infrastructure at the regional airport.
Rep. Gonzalez announced that $1,491,504 has been awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to upgrade critical infrastructure at Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO).
The funding, made possible through the FFA Reauthorization Act of 2024, will be used to replace aging airfield signage, helping improve airport safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.

Officials say the improvements will strengthen transportation infrastructure while supporting the airport's continued growth as a regional gateway for South Texas.

Interim Airport Director Faisal Khalifa thanked Gonzalez for securing the funding, saying the grant will strengthen airport operations and regional transportation infrastructure.
