Libertarian Ted Brown Calls for Inclusion in Texas U.S. Senate Debate

It’s debate season, and one candidate is making the case for his inclusion in the Texas U.S. Senate debate.

Ted Brown, the Libertarian candidate for Texas U.S. Senate, is making it clear that he’s ready to debate Attorney General Ken Paxton and State Rep. James Talaric (D-TX).

“There are only three candidates in the Senate race, yet the media outlets only invited Talarico and Paxton to three scheduled debates,” Brown said. “Voters need to hear from all the candidates to make an informed choice in this race.”

In an exclusive interview with Texas Politics, Brown described the need for more options in elections, saying, “I think it’s important for there to be alternative voices in politics, and we sure don’t get that from the Democrats and Republicans.” He added, “They’re just like two sides of the same statist coin. They just want to advance the size of government in different ways.”

Regarding the upcoming debate, Brown commented that “in a year when over 50% of voters nationwide say they are seeking alternatives to the corrupt status quo parties, it’s shocking that the only alternative candidate in this race hasn’t been invited.”

Brown has previously run for the Texas U.S. Senate, running in 2024 against Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as “The better Ted!” Former Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX) also ran in that race.

Brown kicked off his U.S. Senate campaign in June, promising, “I’ll be an independent voice for Texas who will protect and defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

On social media, Brown also shared that Libertarian Senate candidates have been included in debates in states like Georgia, Indiana, and Arizona.

He further noted that wrestler turned politician Jesse Ventura ran for Governor of Minnesota as the Reform Party candidate in 1998. At the time, he was polling in single digits, but after participating in four debates alongside the Democratic and Republican candidates, Ventura jumped in the polls and became governor.
