Brandon Gill Warns Democratic Socialists Are Taking Over the Party

Democratic Socialists continue to take over nearly every conversation about the Democratic Party, and Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) is not holding back his criticism.

Democratic Socialism is a political ideology that advocates a democratic system with increased public ownership and government involvement in the economy, which has been recently popularized by politicians like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D-NY) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Though some Democrats don’t see an issue with the movement, Republicans warn this is a national threat to democracy.

“I think the Democrat Party is starting to implode under this,” Rep. Gill said in an interview with Fox News. “I think they’re losing Democrats across the country who look at this and think defunding prisons is insane.”

Concerns over the growing influence of democratic socialism within the Democratic Party have only increased this week following a key primary race in the battleground state of Michigan. United States Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D-MI) defeated three-term Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) with a campaign focused on universal healthcare and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

So far this election cycle, multiple Democratic incumbents have lost primary races to candidates aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) or who identify as democratic socialists.

Rep. Gill also pointed to Mayor Mamdani’s recent proposal to open government-owned grocery stores, another socialist idea he said is too radical.

“And when they’re not doing that, they’re trying to trans three-year-olds, and they’re trying to put drag queens in little kids schools, and they’re letting criminals loose in our street,” Rep. Gill said.

The Texas Congressman said Mamdani is the “key ideological leader” of this movement which he said is “making life tangibly worse” for the American people.

"That's turning our streets into third world hell holes, and they're doing it with a smile on their face because they know that's ultimately their goal,” he said. "Their goal is control of these cities."

  • eww. why even give this space as 'reporting'. DSA is not taking over the party, nobody is trying to 'trans' kids, or take over cities. And El-Sayed is not running on defunding police.
