Vicente Gonzalez Delivers $2M for Multi-Purpose Sports Complex

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (D) joined Donna Mayor David Moreno and city officials to announce the delivery of $2 million in federal funding for Phase Two construction of the Donna Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Federal funding supports Donna park expansion

Gonzalez secured the Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding for the project, which will expand the south side of the sports complex.

The $2 million investment will fund several new recreational amenities, including:

  • A covered basketball pavilion
  • A playground
  • A dog park
  • Restrooms
  • Workout stations
  • A market walk for community events and vendors

Gonzalez said the project will provide new opportunities for families and small businesses while encouraging residents to stay active.

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez: "A healthy, more connected community leads to a stronger economy, lower medical costs, and an improved quality of life."

Donna officials highlight community investment

Mayor David Moreno said the project represents a major investment in Donna's residents and noted that the city had not invested in a park for children and families in more than 40 years.

Mayor David Moreno: "This park project is a reinvestment in the people who call Donna home and demonstrates our commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in Donna."

Moreno also credited Gonzalez's efforts to secure federal funding for the project.

According to Donna's Parks and Recreation Department, the second phase will expand the city's ability to host tournaments, public events, fitness activities, and year-round programming.

Additionally, Gonzalez has secured $12.6 million in federal funding for 15 community projects during the past year, including the second phase of the Donna sports complex.

The additional facilities will also create more space for youth activities, family recreation, and community gatherings.

The Bottom Line

The $2 million federal investment will help Donna expand its Multi-Purpose Sports Complex with new recreational facilities and community spaces. City officials say the projects will provide residents with opportunities for recreation, fitness, events, and family activities.
