Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D) announced $375,000 in federal funding for the Cameron County Sheriff's Office to install bullet-resistant windshields on 61 patrol vehicles, along with $3.88 million in additional Operation Stonegarden funding for border security and law enforcement.
Rep. Gonzalez, joined by the Cameron County Sheriff Manny Travino and the Cameron County Sheriff's Office, announced $375,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project funding secured for the department.
The funding will upgrade 61 patrol vehicles with bullet-resistant windshields, adding protection for the county's 115 uniformed deputies.
Gonzalez also announced $3.88 million through the Department of Homeland Security's Operation Stonegarden.

The funding will support border security and additional law enforcement personnel, overtime, equipment, and other eligible activities.

Sheriff Trevino said the ballistic-resistant windshields will provide an additional layer of protection for deputies while they serve Cameron County.

This funding adds to Gonzalez's total secured federal funding for the communities he represents. Gonzales said he secured $12.6 million in federal funding for 15 community projects during the past year, including projects focused on public and deputy safety.
