Trump Weighs In on Ted Cruz’s Potential 2028 Presidential Run

President Donald Trump gave his thoughts on a potential presidential run by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) last week. Still, the Texas Senator stressed that he is more concerned about the upcoming midterm elections.

A 2028 run would not be the first time Sen. Cruz has thrown his hat in the presidential ring. In 2016, he came in second among the Republican presidential nominees just after President Trump. Last week, President Trump gave reporters his thoughts on if Sen. Cruz chooses to run.

“I would say that he’s very talented. He’s a very good friend of mine,” Trump said. “I think he might do good, yeah. He’s a talented guy.”

In a recent podcast with Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Sen. Cruz said “time will tell” if he does decide to step into the pool of nominees.

“It’s no secret that I want to be president,” Sen. Cruz said.

But in an interview with MS Now, Sen. Cruz said he is currently focused on the midterms this fall. He described the upcoming election as the “most consequential midterms we have ever had in the last decade.”

“This is the season of the midterms,” Sen.Cruz said. “I’m spending my time on the road campaigning for candidates all over the country.”

Sen. Cruz warned that, if the Democrats do gain a majority in Congress, the party will continue to launch investigations and impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

“I think most voters don’t want massive gridlock and obstruction from Washington,” he said. “That’s what the Democrats are campaigning on.”

Sen. Cruz said he will continue to be on the road “non-stop” until Election Day to support his fellow Republican colleagues in both chambers of Congress.

“There has not been another Republican who’s campaigned for more Senate candidates, more House candidates, more gubernatorial candidates than I have,” Sen. Cruz said.
