Over 1.7 Million Free Eggs Delivered to Texas Food Banks

More than 1.7 million eggs are already making their way to Texas food banks, with millions more expected in the coming weeks as part of settlements secured by Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The statewide effort stems from June settlements with Cal-Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova and Hickman's Egg Ranch. The agreements require the companies to donate more than 7 million eggs to Texas food banks after antitrust claims involving an alleged conspiracy to inflate egg prices between 2022 and 2025. The companies will also pay a combined $3.3 million to participating states.

Another 5.322 million eggs are scheduled for delivery, bringing the total distribution closer to the full 7 million promised under the agreements.

"After securing 7 million eggs for the people of Texas, I am excited to announce that Texans will now have an opportunity to receive cartons of free eggs in communities across the state," said Paxton.

The distribution is being coordinated with Feeding Texas and involves 17 food banks. The largest allocations include 1.54 million eggs for the Houston Food Bank, 842,400 each for the North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank, 561,600 each for the Central Texas Food Bank and Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, and 464,600 for the San Antonio Food Bank.

Other participating food banks span the state, including facilities serving communities in Austin, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, Laredo, Beaumont, Victoria, Tyler, and Wichita Falls.

The settlement followed antitrust claims brought by Texas and other states alongside the Trump administration's Department of Justice. The Attorney General's Office said the agreements require the companies to implement safeguards designed to prevent similar conduct in the future.
