Chip Roy Highlights $7.5 Billion Texas Border Security Reimbursement

Representative Chip Roy (R) highlighted the Department of Homeland Security's confirmation of a $7.5 billion reimbursement to Texas for border security costs, saying the funding follows efforts by Texas lawmakers to secure federal compensation.

"When the Biden-Harris Administration unleashed the worst border crisis in recent history, the state of Texas stepped up to fulfill what should have been the federal government's most basic duty," said Roy.

He cited securing the border, addressing illegal immigration, and combating drug trafficking among the state's efforts.

Roy said he and other members of the Texas delegation pushed for reimbursement when the Biden administration was in office.

"While there's more to be done to compensate the state of Texas fully, I thank President Trump and DHS Secretary Mullin for their efforts to make our state whole," said Roy.

The $7.5 billion award was approved through the State Border Security Reinforcement Fund created under the One Big Beautiful Bill. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the reimbursement recently, saying DHS had approved the payment following the state's application submitted in June.

Roy previously called for a reimbursement mechanism for Texas border security costs. In a May 2025 letter, he said Texas taxpayers had incurred $11.1 billion in border-related costs and urged Congress to establish a reimbursement fund.

Texas is also seeking a portion of an additional $3 billion in Department of Justice funds to reimburse remaining border security costs, according to the governor's office.
