Angela Paxton Urges Texas Women to Back Republicans Even When They’re ‘Mad at Them’

State Sen. Angela Paxton (R-TX), former wife of Attorney General Ken Paxton (R-TX), is urging Republican women to back her ex-husband and Republicans even if they are mad at them.

Many have been outspoken about their support or distaste for Texas Senate Candidate Ken Paxton, who has been embroiled in controversy since the start of his campaign. Until now, Angela Paxton has not publicly confirmed or denied her support for her ex-husband, but their bitter divorce did not help his standing with female Republicans in the Lone Star State.

During a Texas Federation of Republican Women meeting earlier this week, Angela Paxton told the group to vote for the Republican candidates “even if we’re mad at them.”

“It’s not the people – it’s the seat,” Angela Paxton said. “Because we have more control over that seat and the future when we control the seat, when it’s still in the family, even if we’re mad at them.”

In July of 2025, Angela Paxton filed for divorce “on biblical grounds” after 38 years of marriage. She also alluded to “recent discoveries” that led her to believe Ken Paxton had “committed adultery.”

Angela Paxton did not endorse any candidate for the Republican Senate primaries in May and has remained relatively silent on the Senate race. However, she continued to stress that candidates are not a “stand-alone thing.”

“When you vote for the person, the party comes along with them,” she said, adding that there are "repercussions" when someone breaks with their Party – Republican or Democrat.

Ken Paxton’s controversial past has also led several former aides and attorneys who worked with him to endorse his opponent James Talarico (D-TX). For the last few months, polls have shown the two remain within just a few points of one another.
