Ken Paxton Unveils ‘Detransition Clinic’ as Transgender Care Becomes Midterm Flashpoint

Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton (R-TX) is launching what he calls the nation’s first-ever “Detransition Clinic” for children who have undergone gender-transition procedures, putting transgender care back at the center of Republicans’ midterm messaging.

The clinic will open at Texas Children’s Hospital and stems from a settlement Paxton secured with the hospital in May. It will offer detransition-related medical care to patients through age 21, along with detransition-related obstetric and gynecologic care to patients older than 21.

“I will continue to ensure that this clinic provides the care and support that victims of the radical left’s gender ideology deserve,” Paxton said.

Under the settlement, Texas Children’s Hospital will pay $10 million to resolve allegations of improper Medicaid billing related to its provision of gender-transition treatments to minors. The agreement also imposes additional requirements on the hospital, including restrictions tied to the care at the center of Paxton’s investigation.

“Together, we will protect our children and defeat the dangerous ideology that has inflicted irreversible harm on innocent kids,” Paxton said.

This clinic comes just days before the midterm elections, in which Republicans have continued to push the idea that Democrats are obsessed with transgender children. One of the most prominent targets is Democratic Senate nominee and Paxton’s opponent James Talarico (D-TX).

At a campaign rally in Dallas, Vice President JD Vance suggested that Talarico was not only in support of transgender children, but that he had an inappropriate interest in them.

“A guy that age who is so obsessed and focused on transgender children, I don’t know about you, but I never want to see that guy’s web browser history,” Vance said, adding later that “people who say stuff like that tend to have some pretty unusual search histories.”

But this issue is one that is of concern for some voters, and this clinic could become a political flashpoint in the midterm elections.
