Loomer Moves Forward With Suing Big Tech

Companies like Google, Facebook, Apple and Twitter have been on the receiving end of criticism when it comes to Freedom of Speech. Conservative commentators have consistently lashed at the companies for allegedly censoring their speech.

Now, after an arduous process, Laura Loomer, a journalist and Florida Republican Congressional Candidate, has been granted the go-ahead to sue the companies for what she believes are violations of her First Amendment rights.

A D.C. District court announced the go-ahead, and this started when Loomer filed the suit last year, arguing that they had canceled her from social media and now allowed her to advertise on the internet.

This comes after a lower court shut out the case. U.S. District Judge Trever N. McFadden argued that “while selective censorship of the kind alleged by the plaintiffs may be antithetical to the American tradition of freedom of speech, it is not actionable under the First Amendment unless perpetrated by a state actor.”

Loomer is currently running for office in Florida, having filed to run for the U.S. House in Florida’s 21st Congressional District. However, her social media accounts have not been restored, leaving her without a social media presence.

If she becomes the Republican candidate, she will face off against Rep. Lois Frankel (D) in the general election.
