Cruz: Trump 'elected to nominate principled constitutionalists to the Supreme Court'

The political line in the sand has been drawn in Washington as President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans are standing firm behind confirming the president’s upcoming nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Progressive Democrats have threatened ‘fire and brimstone’ and if Republicans tried to force a vote on Trump’s nominee, a nominee that will most likely be a very conservative and constitutionalist woman.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R), who is listed as a possible nominee on Trump’s shortlist of candidates, told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that Americans voted for a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate that last three election cycles because they wanted “constitutionalists to the Supreme Court.”

This is exactly why President Trump was elected. He was elected to nominate principled constitutionalists to the Supreme Court,” said Cruz.  And this is why the American people elected a Republican majority, and they did so repeatedly. They elected a Republican majority in the Senate in 2014. They did so again in 2016. And in 2018, they grew our majority in the Senate. The voters had front and center the issue of what kind of justices are going to go to the Court. Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, they embrace radical leftists who want to undermine the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and President Trump promised to nominate justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas.”

President Trump is expected to announce his nominee on Saturday, and confirmation proceedings could begin shortly after the nomination is formally presented to the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) hasn’t announced when he would begin the confirmation process, but considering that a pre-election vote benefits Trump’s overall reelection campaign, expect a trial to begin sometime around next week.

“When the nomination comes out of committee then I’ll decide when and how to proceed,” McConnell said.
