Republicans Split on Trump's Election Night Result Comments

President Trump (R) continues to mount litigations to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election, and the response from Republican lawmakers has been divided.

Some Republicans have provided neutral responses on the matter, some have thrown their support behind the President’s arguments while some have criticized the President for his response.

One such lawmaker that has criticized the President’s response is Texas Rep. Will Hurd (R) who took to Twitter to voice his disapproval of President Trump’s recent comments on the election results.

On Twitter, Hurd commented that “a sitting president undermining our political process & questioning the legality of the voices of countless Americans without evidence is not only dangerous & wrong, it undermines the very foundation this nation was built upon” and asserting that “every American should have his or her vote counted.”

The response received bipartisan support from Florida Rep. Ted Deutch (D) who simply responded with “Thank you, Will.”

However, the Florida lawmaker also provided his own thoughts on Twitter regarding President Trump’s criticism of how certain states have handled the counting process.

Deutch expressed that “the President has spent four years trying to undermine our democratic institutions,” noting that “last night’s WH meltdown was a direct attack on counting the votes – the very essence of representative democracy.”

Rep. Deutch concluded that “history will harshly judge elected officials who defend these baseless attacks.”

Tony Gonzales (R), who will now be replacing Rep. Hurd in Texas’ 23rd district,  has not yet responded to the President’s arguments. As a newly-elected Republican congressman, a statement may soon follow that will either distance himself from Hurd’s comments or it will fall in line with Hurd’s response.
