After President Joe Biden’s (D) State of the Union address, a number of Republicans were vocally disappointed and accused the President of downplaying growing concerns at the southern border. One of those GOP members is Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R), who was live tweeting during the event. However, there are Democrats who have also expressed their disappointment at how the President has responded to immigration concerns. With Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) expressing his disappointment in a recent interview with Fox News, Rep. Donalds is echoing in his remarks, adding that “the Biden Admin is deceiving the people into thinking their crisis on the border has been resolved.”
After a recent helicopter tour of the Donna, Texas facility alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), Rep. Cuellars accused the Department of Homeland Security of creating the illusion that facilities were being emptied out. “All they’re doing is, they’re moving kids from one tent to the other tent and saying, ‘Oh, they’re not in the Border Patrol” custody,” Cuellar explained. Instead, “they’re right next door… they’re just next door in the HHS,” Cuellar added.
Responding to the Texas Democrat’s words on Twitter, Donalds expressed that the Biden Administration has not resolved the “crisis on the border.” “If your definition of resolved in spreading hundreds of kids around the country, then yes, but that’s not the right solution,” he added.
The Biden Administration recently released images of a nearly empty Donna facility. There were only a few beds and a few youths, and a recent Border Report informed that DHS officials confirmed that the youths were still in the custody of HHS, but the HHS would not disclose their location.
Cuellar is currently serving as the vice chairman of the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, and he has toured the Donna facility several times since President Biden assumed office.
