Crenshaw Sends 'Thoughts and Prayers' to Democrats After Voting Bill Signed

Although controversial since first being introduced, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed into law a new “Election Integrity” bill that enforces several measures. In response to the signing of the bill, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) directed sarcastic criticism at Democrats, urging Americans to “keep the brave Texas Democrats in your thoughts and prayers."

Responding to a video posted on Twitter of Governor Abbott singing the controversial measures into law, the signing comes at a time when Texas has been scrutinized under the public eye.

The “Election Integrity” law “ensures every eligible voter gets to vote,” “adds more hours to vote,” “makes it harder for fraudulent votes to be cast,” “makes ballot harvesting a 3rd degree felony” and Governor Abbott argues that it will make it “easier to vote and harder to cheat.”

While GOP members have supported the measures since their introduction, Democratic members in office have completely rejected the measures.

In turn, Crenshaw took a sarcastic swipe at Democrats on the social media platform.

Calling form Americans to “keep the brave Texas Democrats in your thoughts and prayers tonight,” Crenshaw further expressed that “their courage in skipping out on work to drink beer on a private jet and infect two branches of the federal government with COVID, only to fail miserably in hilarious fashion, will never be forgotten.”

After signing the bill into law during a ceremony in Tyler, Texas, Governor Abbott proclaimed that "election integrity is now law in the state of Texas." The Governor wants the bill to act as a sign of renewed faith in elections for the people of Texas. Further commenting on this, the Governor expressed that "One thing that all Texans can agree [on]... is that we must have trust and confidence in our elections," assuring that the bill "helps to achieve that goal." However, the bill received major backlash from Democrats, who also expressed disappointment in the bill being signed into law.
