Allen West
As the gubernatorial election in Texas heats up, former Congressman Beto O'Rourke has officially thrown his hat in the ring, prompting Republican primary candidate Lt. Colonel Allen West (R-TX) to welcome O'Rourke to the race.
Lt. Colonel West, who is challenging incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, has largely promised Texas a total revamp of the Border Crisis and a stricter following of the Constitution.
Now that O'Rourke is in the mix, who is one of Texas' most progressive political figures, the Texas gubernatorial race might be even more interesting than Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) defending his seat in the Florida gubernatorial next year.
Lt. Colonel West spoke with Texas Politics today, in which he told us that "It’s gonna be a pleasure debating Robert Francis, not so much for him! Texas doesn’t want, or need, an open borders, green new deal, anti-second amendment far left progressive socialist Governor."
'Beto' O'Rourke, whose real name is Robert Francis, previously tried to run for Senator against Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and in 2020 the Democrat presidential primary. The former Congressman lost both times but gave Senator Cruz a run for his money back in 2018 when he gained a decent amount of the vote.
Upon his bid for the presidency last year, O'Rourke received comparisons between himself and former President Barrack Obama (D), so it is safe to assume that Texas Politics has not seen the last of the El Paso native.
