Gov. Abbott Releases Statement on Judge's Ruling On Biden

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) recently released a statement discussing a new federal ruling regarding the Biden administration’s handling of illegal immigrants.

“A federal court has overturned President Biden’s disastrous catch-and-release policies at our southern border. This ruling is a win for Texas as we continue to secure the border in the Biden Admin’s absence. Biden must do his duty & enforce federal immigration laws.”

The federal judge ruled that the Biden Administration violated federal law by releasing large amounts of illegal immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Gov. Abbott’s statement focuses heavily on President Joe Biden’s (D) border policies.

"Yesterday, another federal court announced what Texans—and Americans—have known all along: President Biden's open border policies are, in the words of Judge Wetherell, 'akin to posting a flashing Come In We’re Open sign on the southern border,’” the Texas lawmaker’s statement reads.

Gov. Abbott continued to point out his various grievances with the Biden administration, accusing him of violating his duties.

“President Biden's catch-and-release agenda, which violates his constitutional duty to enforce federal immigration laws, has catalyzed an unprecedented crisis of illegal immigration at our southern border and throughout our nation.”

Abbott highlighted the possible cost of a rapid increase in illegal immigration.

“In 2023 alone, this surge of illegal immigration will saddle Texas taxpayers with an estimated financial burden of $13.3 billion,” stated the Texas governor.

The Texas governor has spent much of his time focusing on the border, as well as critiquing the President for his administration’s handling of illegal immigration.

Much of the governor’s border security critiques have involved trafficking which includes drug smuggling, specifically fentanyl.

“Fentanyl poisoning has now become the leading cause of death of Americans between 18 and 45. This travesty must end,” said Abbott in a public statement.

The governor recently launched a campaign known as the “One Pill Kills Campaign” targeted at fighting the opioid crisis.

“I met with Texas families who have been ripped apart by fentanyl. And, with us here tonight Is Veronica Kaprosy from San Antonio,” stated the governor.

“Last year, she told me about her daughter Danica, a bright, young woman lost in her prime because she took a pill not knowing it was laced with fentanyl. The story of Danica and too many others inspired us to start the ‘One Pill Kills' awareness campaign.”
