Rep. Crenshaw Responds to AMLO's Denial of Fentanyl Production

Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw (R) took umbrage with the president of Mexico’s recent assertion that his country does not produce the highly-lethal opioid fentanyl.

In a tweet, Rep. Crenshaw accused Mexico's president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of lying about the country’s production of fentanyl.

“If we weren’t certain of it before, we are now: the President of Mexico would rather defend the cartels and lie about their complicity in the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans than do anything to stop them,” said Rep. Crenshaw.

In response to questions about the factories that allegedly produce the opioid, Pres. López Obrador claimed that they were pill-pressing operations, but not fentanyl producers.

Furthermore, Pres. López Obrador drew attention to the colors of the various fentanyl pills that American authorities have seized.

López Obrador stated that the fentanyl pills seized in Mexico were all colored blue. However, he claimed that the United States has fentanyl pills of multiple colors.

Crenshaw joins fellow Texas politician Governor Greg Abbott (R) in calling for decisive action against the fentanyl crisis.

Given the deadly nature of the drugs, the opioid crisis has become a highly popular topic.

Many opioids are smuggled across the border, including fentanyl, leading many to believe that deaths from the drug are avoidable if the smuggling is stopped.

Gov. Greg Abbott recently announced his campaign against fentanyl titled “One Pill Kills”. He spoke to a crowd and shared his encounters with people affected by the drug.

“I met with Texas families who have been ripped apart by fentanyl. And, with us here tonight is Veronica Kaprosy from San Antonio,” said Abbott.

The Texas governor continued, expressing the subtle way many have taken the drug without being aware of its presence.

“Last year, she told me about her daughter Danica, a bright, young woman lost in her prime because she took a pill not knowing it was laced with fentanyl.”

The crisis has become a national issue, sparking concern amongst many American families, and the recent claims by López Obrador continue to draw skepticism and disbelief.
