Rep. Jackson Lee Condemns Trump Sharing Obama’s Address

Texas Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D) recently took to Twitter to condemn Donald Trump’s (R) sharing of former president Barack Obama’s (D) address.

Rep. Jackson Lee began her statements by emphasizing the meaning and importance of Independence Day.

“The good people of America have to understand, good people are in our cities, counties, rural communities, villages, and our hamlets. We just commemorated our very special holiday, Independence Day, that drew Americans together from around the nation.”

The Texas congresswoman celebrated getting a chance to meet with the American people, while stressing the importance of American values.

“I myself was inspired by the many events that I was able to join here in Houston. It was great meeting more neighbors and new friends around the commemoration of our nation’s values of freedom, democracy, and justice.”

On his social media network, Trump posted the address of what he believed to be Obama’s. Later that day, a man was arrested with two guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition outside that same house.

Rep. Jackson Lee expressed her disappointment and shock at Trump’s actions.

“That’s why I’m most disturbed as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, and a member who served in local government in Houston, to hear of a former President exposing the address of another former President’s family home which generated the presence of a terrorist aiming…”

“to do violent harm to President Obama and his family. And further, the same former President’s attacks on professional prosecutors, putting their lives in jeopardy as well. This is not our America,” continued Rep. Jackson Lee.

The Texas representative encouraged Americans to unite.

“We must all come together to show what America is; a place that believes in justice, freedom, and respect. I’m glad to live in Houston, where we showed that on July 4th and every single day.”

In other news, Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) briefly addressed the upcoming sentencing for the murderer in the 2019 El Paso massacre.

In a tweet, Rep. Escobar recognized the gravitas of the hearing, while also expressing empathy for those who had loved ones that were killed in the shooting.

“While this week’s federal sentencing is an important step toward justice for the horrific tragedy of August 3, 2019, for many El Pasoans, it will also mean re-living the trauma of that day and every day that followed.”

Rep. Escobar shared her desire for healing among those affected by the horrible shooting.

“I’m certain it will be profoundly difficult for many of the victims to provide their victim impact statements, but I hope the sentencing will be a powerful step toward healing, especially for those most affected by that horrible day.”

She concluded her statement with a message of hope.

“Together, our community will persevere and remain El Paso Strong.”
