In a joint effort with fellow Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D), Texas Representative Greg Casar (D) took to the House floor to push for funding to pay for the child care of military families.
“.@JoaquinCastroTX and I want to amend the annual defense spending bill to get child care for military families – instead of excess weapons that the military isn’t even asking for.”
In his speech on the House floor, Rep. Casar detailed one of the most consistent needs for military families.
“Throughout my time in office, I’ve heard and spoken with military families about what their greatest needs are. And the answer that’s most consistently come up isn’t about the latest tanks or the latest guns. It’s child care.”
The need for childcare affects a large amount of American military families. The San Antonio native made sure to emphasize just how relevant it was to the local community.
“In fact, based on a 2021 survey from Military Family Advisory Network, they found that 78% of military families have found it difficult to get child care for their kids. And this need is ever more present in San Antonio, Texas — Military City, U.S.A.”
The Texas Representative discussed the disparity between the copious amounts of money spent on weapons versus healthcare.
“Military readiness means more than just stocking up on more and more weapons and gadgets. It means investing in the people of the military. But right now, the extreme right-wing is trying to bring a bill to spend more and more money on weapons that the Pentagon hasn’t even asked for, and it happens nearly every year.”
The James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act is a United States federal law that specifies the budget, expenditures and policies of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for fiscal year 2024.
“The NDAA, our annual defense spending bill, provides funds that the Department of Defense is told to spend on obsolete weapons and programs. That’s why I’m proposing an amendment to the NDAA alongside Congressman Castro to provide adequate child care for our military families,” said Casar.
In other news, Texas Senator John Cornyn (R) recently attacked President Joe Biden’s (D) “Bidenomics.”
In a tweet, the conservative Representative listed the things he had a problem with.
“Historic debt, wasteful Washington spending, and 40-year high inflation eating away the standard of living for American families: In 2022, alone, food prices increased by 9.9 percent! That’s Bidenomics,” said Sen. Cornyn.
His tweet was in response to a tweet from the President, who stated the good things the Biden Administration had done.
“13 million jobs created. We’re making things in America again. And we’re taking action to bring down costs on kitchen table items. That’s Bidenomics,” said Pres. Biden.
