Gov. Abbott Announces Openings for Texas Travel Grant

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) recently announced openings for the Texas Travel Industry Recovery Grant (TTIR). The applications are open from September 1 to September 9.

Texas has several historical sites as well as entertainment venues, causing it to be a hotspot for tourism.

“The travel and tourism industry plays a critical role in Texas’ booming economy,” said Gov. Abbott.

The application for the grant is available through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism.

“While we continue to welcome new visitors across this great state every day, we want to ensure continued post-pandemic recovery for local businesses in travel, tourism, and hospitality. The new application category for the Texas Travel Industry Grant Recovery Program will create more opportunities for hardworking Texans and for businesses across every region of Texas.”

According to the statement, the governor signed Senate Bill 30 into law in 2023. This law allows approved applicants to receive up to $250,000 in total from the TTIR program.

However, if one received an award through the first five categories of the program they are also eligible to reapply for funding under category six.

In other news, after turning himself in, Rudy Giuliani, lawyer to former president Donald Trump (R), was booked at the Fulton County jail.

The former New York mayor’s bond was set at $150,000, $50,000 less than Trump.

After Giuliani was booked, he stated that he was honored to be a part of the case involving charges of attempting to overturn an election.

“This indictment is a travesty. It’s an attack on -- not just me, not just President Trump, not just the people in this indictment, some of whom I don’t even know – this is an attack on the American people,” said Guiliani.

Giuliani is one of 19 defendants who were charged in Georgia.

The former president’s court date has been set for March 4, 2024.

The trial date comes right before what’s known as Super Tuesday — a crucial date when the largest number of U.S. states hold primary elections and caucuses for the presidential election.

Previously, Trump expressed a desire for the court date to be pushed back until after the 2024 presidential election. However, he will now face a much earlier date at an important time in the election cycle.
