Casar Announces Draft Requiring Texas Grid be Connected to National Grid

In a recent statement, Texas Representative Greg Casar (D) announced that he is drafting federal legislation to require Texas’s electrical grid to be connected to the national grids.

“I am drafting federal legislation to connect Texas to the national electric grids,” said Rep. Casar.

The Texas congressman noted how Texans have been asked to conserve energy in order to prevent a blackout in the Texas power grid during one of the hottest summers on record.

“Whether we’re in the middle of a heat wave or a winter storm, Texas should be able to keep the lights on. This legislation will help consumers, improve the economy, generate more clean power, and save lives,” said Rep. Casar.

According to the statement, nearly 90% of Texas’s electricity is run solely through the state grid.

The weather in Texas can be brutal, with extremely cold winters and extremely hot summers. Because of this, Casar believes it is crucial that Texas is connected to the national grid.

Cities like El Paso and Jasper are connected to the national grid and did not suffer mass power outages in the rough Winter Storm Uri in 2021.

Earlier in the year, the state experienced extreme, cold weather conditions that heavily impacted its power grid, thus affecting its citizens.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) came under fire from Texans and Democratic lawmakers who claimed he and the state had been unprepared for the weather crisis. The criticism came after a previous winter in which a similar situation occurred.

In other news, former president Donald Trump’s (R) court date has been set for March 4, 2024.

The trial date comes right before what’s known as Super Tuesday — a crucial date when the largest number of U.S. states hold primary elections and caucuses for the presidential election.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who set the court date, stated that the trial’s time is not dictated by Trump’s outside plans.

“I want to note here that setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on the defendant’s personal or professional obligations,” said Chutkan.

Previously, Trump expressed a desire for the court date to be pushed back until after the 2024 presidential election. However, he will now face a much earlier date at an important time in the election cycle.

The court date has received mixed reactions with Trump lawyer John Lauro stating that the date didn’t give him enough time to review the case.

Yet, prosecutor Molly Gaston expressed her desire to give the public the speedy trial she believes they want.
