DeSantis's Fundraising in Texas Criticized by Pundits

In an attempt to raise money for his 2024 presidential campaign, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) will be fundraising in Houston, TX.

The fundraising event will take place on September 20, 2023, and will include a mix of donors and supporters of the current Florida governor.

DeSantis is expected to stop in six cities including Dallas, Houston, Midland, San Antonio, Tyler, and Waco.

Politicians typically make multiple stops on their campaign trails to find support as well as receive money from donors and supporters. And, despite Gov. DeSantis’s penchant for controversy, many people would see this as a normal move and not an anomaly.

Yet, political pundit and conservative journalist Laura Loomer thinks otherwise.

In a recent post, Loomer alleges that DeSantis’s Texas event is tied to Texas Speaker Dade Phelan (R), due to their close proximity to one another. Furthermore, she states that an event hosted by Speaker Phelan on the same day as DeSantis will share donors who are slated to be at both events.

However, some GOP members disagree. Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas Matt Rinaldi (R) expressed what he considered flaws in Loomer’s logic.

In response to a post calling the report “garbage”, Rinaldi gave his thoughts on the issue.

“100% correct. The story is garbage. Politicians having fundraisers in different locations on the same day is not “campaigning with them”. The common donors hook is weak. If you play that game, DeSantis’ Dallas event was hosted by donors funding Paxton’s defense. Come on people.”

In other news, Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) took to the House floor to highlight House Democrats’ fight to lower drug costs.

"Affordable health care for seniors is my top priority @HouseDemocrats and the Biden Administration are working hard to negotiate drug prices for 623,000 seniors in Texas."

“Ensuring that everyone has access to high quality and affordable healthcare is the top priority for me,” said Rep. Garcia.

The Texas lawmaker continued, expressing her approval for the new drug prices.

“That’s why together with House Democrats we have fought tirelessly in Congress to bring down healthcare and prescription drug costs. Finally now, Medicare can negotiate lower prescription drug costs for seniors and other beneficiaries which will take effect in 2026.”

Multiple important drugs were selected in the first batch of negotiations including Eliquis, Jardiance, Xarelto, Januvia, Farxiga, Entresto, Enrebel, Imbruvica, Stelara and Fiasp.
