Henry Cuellar Robbed at Gunpoint

News has just surfaced that Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) was robbed at gunpoint last night. His vehicle, phone, and other items were robbed around 9:30 p.m. outside of his apartment building. The apartment building is about a mile south of the Capitol building.

Jacob Hochberg, Rep. Cuellar’s Chief of Staff, took to social media to provide an update on the armed robbery, writing that “As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle. Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with law enforcement.”

Rep. Cuellar’s vehicle was later recovered.

The National Republican Congressional Committee took to social media to comment on the robbery, writing that “when Members of Congress are robbed at gunpoint, crime is out of control.”

“It’s time for extreme House Democrats to drop their pro-crime policies.”

Utah Senator Mike Lee (R) took to social media to weigh in on the robbery, saying that Rep. Cuellar “became the victim of a crime tonight in what’s considered a nice part of D.C.”

“D.C. is dangerous. Something’s gone terribly wrong here – for far too long,” he expressed, adding that “Congress has the sole power to make D.C.’s laws, and must intervene.”

According to the D.C. Metro Police, in 2023, there have been 750 carjackings, and 75% of those carjackings have involved guns.

Rep. Cuellar was unharmed in the carjacking, and this is the second assault on a member of Congress in the District of Columbia this year. In February, Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig (D) was assaulted in her apartment building in Washington.
