Tuberville Reiterates Stance on Halting Confirmation of Military Promotions

As the Israel-Hamas war continues, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville (R) has reiterated his stance on obstructing the process of hundreds of military promotions from being confirmed by Congress.

The senator’s qualms come from a measure passed earlier in the year in which the Pentagon agreed that it would pay for service members located in states where abortion is illegal to seek abortion out-of-state.

“The Pentagon clearly thinks forcing taxpayers to facilitate abortion is more important than confirming their top nominees without a vote. They could end this situation TODAY by dropping their illegal and immoral policy and get everyone confirmed rapidly, but they refuse,” said Sen. Tuberville spokesperson Steve Stafford.

“If the Biden administration wants their nominees confirmed then Senate Democrats can do what Coach just did in September and file a cloture petition to force a vote,” said Stafford.

The funding has drawn criticism from many lawmakers and voters around the country. However, Sen. Tuberville’s blockade is also drawing the ire of politicians and military leaders.

Tuberville argues that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) could call for each of the 300 nominations to have their own vote. Critics of this style of voting claim the process would be significantly longer.

In other news, joined by representatives across the country, Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D) introduced a House Resolution that reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to respect the sovereignty of Mexico as well as condemned calls for military action in Mexico without Mexico’s consent and U.S. congressional authorization.

The resolution was introduced with original co-sponsors including multiple Texas representatives such as Reps. Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Greg Casar (TX-35) and Jasmine Crockett (TX-30).

“Over the last several months, Americans have seen an alarming rise in reckless remarks that threaten to normalize the idea of invading Mexico,” said Congressman Joaquin Castro.
