Jordan Speakership Gains Momentum as Republicans Start to Flip

More and more Republicans are rallying behind Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker of the House as the GOP Conference finds itself searching to unite in order to get back to business for the American people. Among those who have switched their vote include Florida Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL).

In a statement on social media, Rep. Buchanan said that Republicans need to “move forward united.”

“Just received a call from Jim Jordan and had a very productive conservation. I informed him that I will be offering my support on the House floor. While I have always said that Jim is a good friend, I am deeply frustrated by the way this process has played out. However, I believe the future and immediate well-being and security of our country is too important and the need for Republicans to move forward united is greater than ever,” said Rep. Buchanan.

Moreover, Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO) got behind Rep. Jordan as well, bringing the Ohio congressman closer to his election.

"Let me be clear, I am not, and will not, work with Democrats as our Republican Conference comes together to elect a conservative Speaker of the House,” said Rep. Wagner. She would also mention, "Jim Jordan and I spoke at length again this morning, and he has allayed my concerns about keeping the government open with conservative funding, the need for strong border security, our need for consistent international support in times of war and unrest, as well as the need for stronger protections against the scourge of human trafficking and child exploitation. Jim Jordan is our conference nominee, and I will support his nomination for Speaker on the House floor."

Now that Jordan’s candidacy for Speaker is gaining momentum, Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) believes that Jordan will be elected due to the notion that “moderates will cave.”

“Jordan will win the speakership tomorrow. It may take multiple rounds. Moderates will cave This was always the plan by the Freedom Caucus. It wasn’t just about removing McCarthy, but installing one of their own. Freedom Caucus played chess. The rest played checkers,” stated Rep. Moskowitz.

Even former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) offered his endorsement of Jordan.

"It's one thing to get elected. It's another thing to govern. It's time to get the House out of this tailspin, come together, and get America back on the right track. Jim Jordan can do it," said Rep. McCarthy.

This is the first time a Speaker has ever been elected during the middle of a Congressional session.
