Gingrich Endorses Van Duyne as House Speaker

This week, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R) secured the nomination for House Speaker. However, Emmer quickly withdrew his nomination, and the search for a nominee continues. With Republicans from across the country vying for the top post, Texas Rep. Beth Van Duynes (R) has been proposed as an alternative.

Shortly after Rep. Emmer was nominated, President Donald Trump (R) shared a statement on social media, calling on Republicans to reject him. “I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great warriors,” Trump said, calling Emmer a “RINO.”

“Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!” Trump added.

Since Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) was ousted, the nominees have been short lived, but a new possible name has entered the fray.

Van Duyne shared a segment of a speech from Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) on social media wherein Gingrich suggests that Rep. Van Duyne would be a good choice for the position.

“My personal belief, reinforced by her brilliant speech tonight, is that Beth Van Duyne should in fact run for speaker,” Gingrich says.

In fact, Gingrich argues that Republicans need new leadership, and this could come from a female speaker.

During an interview on Fox News Sunday, Gingrich expressed that he wishes Republicans “had a woman candidate out of all the candidates they’ve got running.” “Somebody like Elise Stefanik or Beth Van Duyne, who had been a mayor of a city before becoming a congresswoman,” Gingrich added.

“I think in some ways, given the level of rowdiness and the level of juvenile behavior, it’s conceivable that a female speaker would be more effective in actually getting them all to get together and stick together,” Gingrich further expressed.

Commenting on the endorsement, Van Duyne called Gingrich “the most successful and effective Speaker” of her lifetime. In response to her name being floated as a possible candidate, she simply questioned, “should I jump in?”

From the time of this reporting, Republicans have elected Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson (R) as their nominee for House Speaker.
