Sen. Cruz Officially Files for Reelection for U.S. Senate

Texas Senator Ted Cruz announced on Monday that he officially filed for reelection to the U.S. Senate. The news also puts any lingering ideas that the Texas lawmaker would run for president in 2024 to rest.

In a statement, current Sen. Cruz highlighted the legislation that was authorized during his time in office. His list of over 90 legislative measures ranged from fighting against the Affordable Care Act to designating North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Sen. Cruz has continued to make China, specifically the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), a main focus. The senator stated that the CCP was guilty of committing human rights atrocities as well as censorship, propaganda, espionage in America and various other actions.

"I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to once again run for re-election to the United States Senate. It has been the honor of a lifetime to give voice to over 30 million Texans in Washington, D.C., fighting for common-sense ideas, protecting our freedoms, and standing up to corrupt politicians and special interest groups. But the job is far from done,” said Sen Cruz.

Sen. Cruz tried to appeal to voters as he stated his belief that Texas was in a fight against liberal rhetoric and lawmakers.

He continued, “Never before has our country needed strong, conservative leaders more to fight against encroaching leftist ideas and politicians, which is why I will be on the campaign trail day in and day out meeting, listening, and working with Texans all across the Lone Star State to once again win their vote in November 2024.”

The current senator will not go unchallenged as he seeks reelection. On July 10, Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez (D) officially announced his candidacy for the United States Senate.

In a series of tweets, Sen. Gutierrez stated why he deemed Sen. Cruz unfit for his current position.

“Ted Cruz abandoned Texas long before he left us to die in the winter storm. Uvalde happened because Republicans neglected the systems in this state that are supposed to keep us safe.”

“I’m running for Senate to fight back against the systems that have left so many Texans behind,” said the state senator.
