Chip Roy Roy Unloads on Republicans for Lackluster Strategy

Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) unloaded on Republicans this week, arguing that the Republican strategy is lackluster. With lawmakers moving ever so closely to the 2024 election, Roy is calling on Republicans to reflect on what they’ve done in office.

This week, Rep. Roy invoked the words of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in a way. Governor DeSantis, during the third presidential debate, told voters that he was tired of seeing Republicans lose. Roy, who’s endorsed DeSantis for President, is bringing up a similar sentiment in calling on Republicans to think about what they’ve done in office so far.

During a speech on the House floor after Republicans derailed a procedural vote to advance an appropriations bill, Roy expressed his frustration with the Republican Party.

“I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing that I can go campaign on and say we did,” Roy said.

“If you want to come down to the floor and come explain to me one material, meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done besides ‘well, I guess it’s not as bad as the Democrats,’” Roy added.

Since House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) was ousted, Republicans have faced infighting. The road to finding a new House Speaker saw Republicans disagreeing on an alternative. Similarly, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) had introduced a resolution to censure Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D), which Roy voted against. Finally, Republicans largely voted against the government shutdown bill that ultimately passed.

Given that a few Republicans voted with all Democrats in passing the bill, the bill now goes to the Senate.

The success of the Republican Party has been a talking point on the presidential campaign trail. A criticism towards President Donald Trump (R) is that, since his time in the White House, Republicans have not seen the victories they expected to have.

Roy is hoping to elicit a change in strategy for the party in the hopes that it yields more favorable results for conservatives.
