Texas Votes Against Textbooks Discussing Climate Change

In a hotly debated move, a school board in Texas has voted against textbooks for its discussion of climate change. The textbooks in question were deemed to be biased against oil companies and the fossil fuel industry.

Green Ninja, the company who made the criticized climate change textbooks, drew the ire of Republican board members for an assignment in which they asked students to make a hypothetical scenario where they have to write to friends and family about climate change.

One of the Texas school board members is an executive of an oil field services company in West Texas and was stated to take an issue with the depictions of the fossil fuel industry. However, the vague complaint against the textbooks' depictions drew more questions from Democratic lawmakers.

A total of seven books were voted against by the GOP board members. However, Texas schools are not obligated to use board approved textbooks.

Book banning has been a popular topic amongst politicians and citizens. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) often finds himself in battles over the thousands of books that have been pulled and banned in Florida.

Gov. DeSantis is currently running for president in the 2024 race. He's faced a lot of competition as he fights against several Republican candidates including former president Donald Trump (R).

In a speech, Trump complimented the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, calling them “very smart.” Many lawmakers came out to denounce Trump's statements which came at a time where many are calling for solidarity with Israel.

“A leader should rise above that, even if you have personal grievances. Rise above that, show solidarity and do what’s best for the overall effort,” said Gov. DeSantis.

The governor continued to criticize Trump's petty and outrageous comments on the terrorists while calling for him to put aside his personal issues with Netanyahu and pay attention to the more important things.
