Van Duyne Fights to Protect Child Support Enforcement Program

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (R) took the House floor to fight for the Child Support Enforcement Program.

In a tweet, Rep. Van Duyne criticized the IRS for its role in ending the program.

“The IRS is continuing to push harmful policies. Their latest effort will put millions of families at risk who rely on the resources provided by the Child Support Enforcement Program. Together with my @WaysandMeansGOP colleagues, I’m working to preserve access for vulnerable families.”

“The Child Support Enforcement Program plays a vital role for millions of families across the country, providing resources to the most vulnerable members of our communities when parents shirk their legal and most critical responsibilities,” continued the Texas congresswoman.

Earlier in the year, the IRS notified child support enforcement agencies of future policy changes. These changes received scrutiny from different lawmakers.

“Over 1.6 million children benefit from the program in Texas alone. In 2020, my home state led the nation in total child support collections for Texas children, more than 27 other states and territories combined.”

On Oct. 1, the IRS policy change terminating contractor access to data necessary for the administration of Title IV-D child support programs went into effect.

“Once again, we see that this IRS is pushing counterproductive and harmful policies. The IRS’ sudden policy reversal to effectively terminate the use of contractors in these programs would result in significant compliant costs to states and put millions of families at risk.”

“It’s crucial that we balance the efficient administration of these vital programs with a protection of confidential federal taxpayer information. But the Child Support Enforcement Program is one of the most cost-effective federal programs, and we owe it to the American families to advance a permanent solution that accomplishes both of these goals,” continued Rep. Van Duyne.

Recently, the congresswoman joined a bipartisan effort in calling for the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to change the Special Forces Program (SFP).

“I’ve continued to work with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle, especially my friend Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), to improve hospice care. Recently, we led a charge to ensure the Special Focus Program will be implemented in a way that prioritizes quality of care.”
